St Veep church

St Veep Church, Cornwall

It has been many months since we’d visited St Veep church. It was a lifeline during the covid lockdowns when we had to isolate as it is so remote with just a very few nearby houses. We are rarely interrupted when we go to pray.

My husband and I are in a pressured season which can be very wearying. We have decisions to make which needed God’s wise counsel and we were finding it hard to settle quietly at home to listen. So we decided to pop over to St Veep.

Stepping over the threshold I was instantly in God’s peace and felt a huge weight drop off my shoulders. Both of us were immediately praying and worshipping unprompted in song. This continued for a long time. It was joyous to finally step out of the spiritual pressures into the cocoon of God’s presence and peace.

We settled to pray in our favourite place by the altar and had a significant time conversing with God, leaving refreshed and hopeful.

I would encourage anyone to visit. Ignore the mustiness and lack of niceties, (the church is old and rarely has services now) because this is a ‘thin place’ and I am almost startled how easy it is to slip into fellowship with God here.
