Llangasty

Llangors

During our Welsh pilgrimage of 2026 we again visited Llangasty praying along the edge of Llangors lake (Llyn Safaddon) but also in the church at Llangasty. This place holds a very special place in my heart as I meet with God in a deep way every time, whether praying by the lake or in the church. This time I woke early and went to the lake at dawn. There was a frost, even though it was May, and wispy mist was rising off the water. It was ethereal and magical. I stepped outside of time. There was a complete hush, no breeze, no human noise, just the soft waking of the birds in their dawn chorus. It is a scene repeated daily for centuries.

We visited also at sunset, sitting by the lakeside for hours watching, resting, praying, being, stopping, enjoying the wildlife. I recorded 32 different birdsongs and on our very last morning as we visited before the long drive home, a big healthy hare loped onto the lane in front of us and we followed it for several minutes before it veered off into a field to graze, totally unphased by our presence. A magical moment.

Langasty church

The church continues to be a wonderfully thin place where high praise, worship and adoration of Jesus pour from my heart.  Over the internal arch is written, 'This is none other than the house of  God and the gateway to heaven'. I agree.  I cannot say how beautiful the presence of God is in this place! If you are dry and thirsty I encourage you to go, meet him there. I know you will.

Whilst in the area of the lake, it is also worth mentioning the church in Llangors village as well. This too is a 'thin place' and the vicar has set up a prayer cell in the tower which is open 24 hours. It is a hallowed place, beautifully simple with candles and a cross plus warm lighting. The room encircles you and it feels very intimate. My husband and I both had wonderful times communing with God here in the early morning and late at night.
