Marhamchurch

Marhamchurch

Marhamchurch is a village near Bude in Cornwall, UK. We visited because the church is associated with St Morwenna (Marwenne) one of King Brychan’s daughters. She was sister to Nectan, Kew, Tudy, Endellienta, Keyne, Minver, Teath and others, many of whom have left their names on villages where they established prayer communities. The church itself didn’t cause me to want to linger but I learnt that St Morwenna’s prayer hermitage was known to be situated where the modern war memorial stands so I went to pray there. I was struck by the words, 'For King and country'. In the prophetic sense, her prayers were for King Jesus and the country.

The situation is on a hilltop and would have been strategic. As I prayed I went into a vision and saw a golden-hued angel kneeling with its sword in the ground. I can see that he’s guarding Morwenna who is dressed in blue and kneeling in deep intercessory prayer. She is weeping in prayer at Jesus’ feet. He is telling her that He will grant her petitions even for future generations and that tears wept in prayer on this site will be heard in heaven.

As I was praying there I was reminded of the holiness and fear of God I felt when visiting Julian of Norwich’s prayer cell in Norwich. It was a depth of holiness I’ve not encountered anywhere else, yet I could sense it here, a deep purity of Spirit. I was fascinated to read afterwards that in fact another anchorite like Julian of Norwich (Cecilia Moyes) actually had her prayer cell here in the 15th century. It seems that it’s another instance of an anointing reigniting on a site centuries apart. Both women seemed to share this holy prayer call.

The vision continued and I could see that Morwenna truly cared for people. She bathed their sores, visited them when dying and prayed for their souls. She walked the coastal cliffs praising God and praying for the generations to come after her. When she laid hands on the sick miracles occurred. As she prayed and cried even her tears healed others as they fell on them. She was a woman of compassionate courage. I also saw an interesting miracle happen as two gold coins appeared one in each of her hands. It reminded me of when Jesus told his disciples to take the coin out of the fish’s mouth to pay taxes. She was a friend of God.

God then started to speak to me about what I was to do whilst there. The angel has been guarding the deposit she made and Cecilia Moyes. I was asked to pray that it would be released once more across Cornwall, that pool of gold in God’s Spirit realm. I could see a deep well full of golden liquid. As I prayed it overflowed and spread out as tributaries of golden liquid flowing across the county. It reminded me of the many visions people have seen of rivers of God’s golden glory flowing throughout Cornwall. These golden waters from ancient wells are being released to be part of God’s glory manifesting again in Cornwall. It was a precious and a holy moment.

As I finished praying, I could see Morwenna looking down through a heavenly portal to me. She waved and I knew we will be great friends in eternity.
