Despite the crowds, it is still possible to draw aside on Lindisfarne and commune with God. This hidden path over looks Cuthbert's island and has a tiny hollow in the cliff where you can be sheltered. Seals mournfully call across the sea, as the wind whips by and you truly feel 'on the edge of the world'. The tough life Cuthbert and his monks lived can easily be imagined but so too can the devotion and life spent worshipping God.
