St Mawes Holy Well

St Mawes Holy Well, Cornwall

This is our first visit to the holy well in St Mawes. It is surrounded by buildings and easy to overlook, tucked in the corner by the edge of the road behind a house. The well house is still intact and despite a beautiful carved door, it is locked and although I could hear the spring water still flowing was not able to see it at all. A wall plaque states the well has been there since the sixth century and references St Mawes. It was really lovely to see the history honoured and remembered, albeit often passed by with no recognition.

I was so surprised by this well! It was a very brief stop off as it is such a public place and hard to pray privately but I could immediately sense the familiar presence of God's peace. My husband came and joined me and for about ten minutes we lingered there praying. We were facing the well when suddenly I felt an angel put his wings around us both and felt overwhelmed by God's love to the point of immediate tears. I then heard the angel speak to my spirit saying,  'Welcome true followers of the Living God. You are recognised in the Spirit and by the heavenly beings. You are welcome here. The deep things of God still remain on the site. Pray for them to be revealed to the eyes of those who come and behold. Pray that the Spirit of the Living God will meet with those who come here and those who are searching will find Jesus. Pray, pray, pray.' And so that's what we did. We prayed.

The heavy weight of peace is tangible. Task accomplished we moved on and decided to visit St Just in Roseland again. You can also read about that visit on this site.
