St Beuno’s well

There was a much happier and peaceful atmosphere at the holy well than there was in the church. In the church it had just felt dead, neglected and empty of all  spiritual life. As my husband aptly put it, like a candle snuffer covers the flame and removes oxygen until the flame is extinguished, so it feels the medieval church which was built on the back of pilgrims’ sacrificial giving and was used to build this huge religious edifice, has somehow strangled out the life. We didn’t want even to stop and pray. It felt like a mausoleum. Even the linked chapel which is where Beuno is reputedly buried was locked and inaccessible.

I was initially so disappointed. Beuno is one of my heroes of faith and we had travelled a long way yo visit here and it was so flat after the church at Pistyll. However, God had other ideas!

We rather reluctantly headed to Beuno’s holy well nearby. What a difference! At the well there is a sense of hope and joy and even a presence of God, so we decided to pray at the well instead of in the church.

As I sit praying, I have a vision and can see a very tall figure, thin and robed in what looks like a monk’s habit. Is it an angel guarding the well?  Or maybe I am outside time again and glimpsing Beuno. I begin to feel this might be the case.

 The figure holds a staff in his right hand and lifts the left hand towards heaven. White opaque light shoots out of the fingers and touches heaven. Then the figure bows 3 times completely disappearing into their cape before exploding upwards each time with faith power and authority. As he does so suddenly a golden viscose liquid flows down the white light. I sense it is healing virtue and he is interceding for a miracle.

The well water is still flowing and clear. As an act of faith we both scoop some up (not to drink) but just to bathe. It is not a superstitious act. The water is not what cleanses and heals but it is an act of faith as we ask Jesus to heal us.

Beuno had a recorded healing and miracle ministry. His prayers resonated with heaven and brought the Kingdom to earth. There are 7 recorded miracles of people being raised from the dead and countless ones of healing miracles. We pray that this anointing will be released once more.
