Howell Harris and Welsh Methodism
Howell Harris was an extraordinary individual who impacted thousands of people. He encountered God at Talgarth church in such a way he was utterly transformed. A further encounter at Llangasty church with the Holy Spirit radically changed his life.
Living at Trefecca near Talgarth at the foot of the Black Mountains and in the region where the Celtic King Brychan and his family spread the gospel, he established a fresh move of God throughout Wales. He was friends with John Wesley and George Whitfield both of whom stayed with him and preached in Trefecca. The main header photo is of his home, where the School of Prophets lived and just over the road from the farm and main college which is still used by the Presbyterian church of Wales.
He established a community of self sustaining businesses including a farm. When he died 20,000 people came to Talgarth for his funeral he was so loved.
He buried in Talgarth church and there is a beautiful gravestone and a lovely unsophisticated potted history of his life written out. Overshadowed by the more famous Whitfield and Wesley, Harris’ impact for the kingdom of God cannot be underestimated. This is just a very brief overview.
