The wild places

I Love The Wild Places

I love the wild places

I love the wild places

where the geese fly

calling into the wind

following high the breath of life

My heart lifts with their flight

and I long once more for the wide-open spaces

the wildness of things untamed

where human hand has not intervened

I long to be on the edge of the world

high up on a mountain range or

perched on a cliff edge

looking out at the vast wild ocean

This is where my heart is

this is where I come alive

this is who I truly am.

I am transported by the sight

to the wilds of Scotland

to the beaches of Mull

to the loneliness of Iona

to Lindisfarne where the sound of seals haunts the air

stirring my soul with something

other than the mundanity of life

Thankful I revisit in my mind’s eye

as vividly as the days spent there

recapturing the wonder and awe

being close with God

as He draws near

in this moment of complete joy
