Clonmacnoise Monastery in Ireland was founded by St Kieran. Many ruins remain of the monastery which is situated on the River Shannon. It has sweeping views across the river and was clearly a strategic location. Ancient high crosses are exhibited, as well as the various chapel remains and towers. It is a key ancient Celtic site and worth visiting.
